Corey Feldman Hints at Possible Return as Donatello in Michael Bay's 'Ninja Turtles'

Michael Bay-produced "Ninja Turtles" remake has yet to announce its cast, but a new report suggests that the project may bring back one of the leading cast members of the original "Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles" films. MovieWeb learns that Corey Feldman is hinting that he could end up reprising his role as Donatello in the upcoming movie.

Corey, who voiced the character in 1990's and 1993's "TMNT" movies, says that he hasn't officially been asked to return but he's been "communicating" with Bay and there might be a chance of him returning as the purple-masked brainbox. Besides, many rabid fans of "TMNT" want the actor to once again bring their beloved character to life.

"I appreciate that, and thank you for the support. It's kind of up in the air. I will say this much," Feldman says. "Michael Bay and I have become social acquaintances. We have traded cell phone numbers. We have been in communication. I have let him know that I support the project. He has let me know that he is a fan of my work."

He goes on dishing, "Its kind of...We are communicating. I wouldn't say there has been a formal offer, or anything like that. Its not even really going to be Michael Bay's decision. It's going to be the director of the film's decision."

During the chat with MovieWeb, Feldman also weighs in on his positive support to Bay's remake project despite the fact that the other original "TMNT" cast members criticized it when it was first announced. Feldman admits that he's always keeping up with the latest "Ninja Turtles" news, "Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. But at the end of the day, I made a statement very early on. I saw some of the other voice actors from the original film were coming out and making statements, 'How can he do this? He's going to screw up the whole thing, blah, blah, blah...' "

"Michael Bay and I have spoken about that," he goes on. "What I have said before to the press is that Michael Bay has done a great job of bringing these things back from the crypt. He has raised them from the crypt, he has brought them back to life, and he has put them on their feet, and made them very, very successful, and lucrative franchises, all over again."

Bay's "Ninja Turtles" project, which has tapped Jonathan Liebesman as the helmer, had been slammed with major criticisms from die-hard fans as well as the original creators of the mutant tale. Most of them blasted the script, which leaked online this summer, for being "fundamentally flawed." However, co-creator Kevin Eastman recently shared that the project had been heading to an interesting direction and promised that the result would be satisfying.

"Jonathan Liebesman is going to make a great film," Eastman told NBC Chicago. "From what I've seen of the script, it's fantastic. Michael Bay has made some great and intense movies. We're talking about being inspired by movies like 'The Avengers' for scope and roots origin and 'The Raid: Redemption' for fight scenes and 'Rise for the Apes' as far as computer-quality style."

Paramount Pictures will release "Ninja Tutles" in the U.S. on May 16, 2014.
